Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy

We all suffer from aches and pains at times, whether we are young or old, fit or unfit. This is especially true for those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or caring for their little ones. Some common problems include:

  • Pelvic Pain or Instability (SIJ or Pubic Symphysis)

We will listen to you and ask a range of questions to identify the main problem and any underlying issues. A clinical assessment will also be performed, and this may involve looking at your range of movement to see how your individual joints, muscles, and nerves move and work. We will be using real time ultrasound to look at deep stability muscles and a variety of other methods.

From this, we can then assist you by:

  • Reducing pain and improving movement through massage, mobilisation, stretching, dry needling or acupuncture, and exercise prescription
  • Improving your core stability muscle activation and giving you immediate visual feedback with real time ultrasound so you know that you are doing it correctly
  • Teaching you how to manage your injury as well as how to move well, lift well, and correct your posture at rest, work, or play
  • Customising an exercise program to improve your strength and flexibility and avoid recurrence of pain or injury
  • Helping you return to fitness following injury, inactivity, or childbirth

Pelvic Floor or Continence Physiotherapy

At Two Bears Physiotherapy, we are experienced in helping women with problems such as bladder weakness, incontinence, and urinary urgency. We will listen to you, assess your specific needs, and tailor a treatment program that suits you, your lifestyle, and your situation. You do not need a referral to come and see us. We will happily liaise with your doctor (general practitioner, urogynaecologist, gynaecologist, or urologist) when necessary.

Paediatric Physiotherapy

Children are not mini-adults. Their bodies are still growing, learning, and adapting constantly. They benefit from a specialised approach to both assessment and treatment that caters specifically to their developmental needs and individual preferences.

Providing care for all children from birth to 18 years, we maintain a relaxed and friendly environment where the whole family can come along to your appointments. Alternatively, we can come to you at home, in school, or your sportsground.

A referral from your doctor is welcomed but is not necessary to attend physiotherapy. Rebates are available from your private health insurance for all consultations. Please contact our clinic if you have any queries or would like to book a consultation for your child.

Dry Needling or Acupuncture

Dry needling or acupuncture has been proven to be very effective for relief from pain (particularly myofascial pain and dysfunction). It assists with rehabilitation from injury and the promotion of overall well-being.

Real Time Ultrasound (RTUS)

RTUS uses a machine similar to an obstetric ultrasound to allow us (and you) to visualise the different layers of your muscle, how well they can contract and relax, and even how much fatty tissue they contain.

This can be used to help you improve your core stability (important during back or pelvic pain rehabilitation) and activate your pelvic floor. Being able to correctly isolate and activate your muscles is fundamental to any strengthening programme.

Babywearing Consultations

An ancient parenting tool, babywearing requires babies to be kept close to the parent using a wrap, sling, or carrier. This is not only great for the extra cuddles, but it also provides many physical and emotional benefits for both the wearer and child. Optimal positioning for your baby and your own comfort and confidence when babywearing are important. We can help you with this!

Consultations Usually Include:

    • Your lifestyle
    • Any pre-existing physical issues you may have that could affect you carrying your baby
    • How to protect your pelvic floor while babywearing
  • How to support correct development of your baby’s hips and spine while wearing
  • Finding the right way to wear that suits you and your baby

We have many different types of carriers or wraps and ringslings to try, and we will walk you through using them step by step. You will also have a chance to practice with a specific babywearing doll until you are confident to try it with your baby.

We also run postnatal fitness classes that include babywearing workouts and group workshops. Antenatal seminars are also conducted, covering many useful topics for pregnancy, labour, and the early days with your baby, including babywearing.

These are Pilates-based classes that provides a total body workout focusing on brining awareness of body positioning, pelvic floor, and core control. The exercises can be modified for all fitness levels and all stages of pregnancy. Benefits include improved strength, balance, flexibility, and body awareness. These classes are child-friendly. Postnatal Fitness Classes

We know how hard it can be to find time to look after yourself with a new baby. Specifically designed and supervised for correct post-partum recovery, these classes provide a safe total body workout for you and encourage motor development for your child.

Classes include a combination of babywearing and mat time and are tailored to suit each participant. Contact us if you are interested in attending a class.
